- Czech Republic came into being on 1/1/1993.
- In December 1996 the Czech government formally presented the request to join the EU.
- Became member of NATO in 1999 and intensified preparations for accession to the EU.
- In the 2001 census there were over 9,000 Australian residents born in Czechoslovakia, of which three quarters are estimated to be of Czech origin.
- Australian exports to the Czech Republic in 2003 were valued at A$ 68.5 million.
- Imports from the Czech Republic in 2003 totalled A$ 120.6 million.
